  • By Boat & Car

The most popular solution for families.

There are many services scattered across the south coast for crossing the channel from the UK. For a comprehensive list of crossings at very competitive prices visit www.ferrysavers.co.uk (except Newhaven - Dieppe www.transmancheferries.com). Allow for a days driving each way. It's substantially quicker using the channel ports (Dieppe, Cherbourg etc) as opposed to coming down through Boulogne or Calais. NB: If booking before the end of April there are often extra special deals on the various individual operators' sites.

  • By Train

London to Angouleme in around 6 hours. Eurostar across the channel to Paris Gare du Nord high and then hi-speed train from Gare Montparnasse to Angouleme where you can pick up a hire car. And then it's just a 40 minute drive!

  • By Plane & Hire Car

This part of France really is surprisingly well connected to the UK by air which unsurprisingly represents the quickest way to get there (we left London at 5am and were at the house by midday on one occasion!).

The nearest airports are Limoges (2 hour drive), Bergerac (1 and a half) & Bordeaux (2 hour drive) - all of them have outlets for all the major car hire firms.

Flybe www.flybe.com currently fly from many UK airports (such as Southampton, Gatwick, Manchester etc) to one or more of Limoges, Bordeaux and Bergerac (depending on starting UK airport).

Similarly Ryannair www.ryanair.com fly direct from London Stansted to Bergerac and Limoges.

British Airways www.britishairways.com fly direct from Gatwick to Bordeaux (useful for those of you with Airmiles to burn).

Air France run routes via Paris - but frankly - it's expensive and slow (the transfer from Charles De Gaulle to Orly across town is a pain).

We will provide details of the best routes for you on booking.
